BASES Sport and Exercise Psychologist in Training

BSc Psychology at Goldsmiths, University of London
MSc Sport and Exercise Psychology at Loughborough University

As an ex-competitive synchronised swimmer (now known as an artistic swimmer), I understand how it feels to be an athlete dealing with the pressure, excitement, fatigue and emotions of training and competing within a team and individual sport environment.

Throughout my undergraduate degree, I kept my focus broad, looking at psychology in general and the ways in which it influences our everyday life.

At Masters level, I was excited to hone in on my area of interest - team sport culture and coach-athlete dynamics, particularly surrounding gender differences.
Having personal connections with women's football, I am extra inquisitive about the ways in which the female game is being moulded by practices and culture that were created for the male version of the game. How do coaches interact with female vs male athletes? Should it be different? How does menstruation impact players both physically, emotionally and how does the stigma surrounding it impact communicating needs to coaches and support staff?

With my goal being achieving qualified Sport Psychologist status, I am currently working within the sport and fitness industries and actively looking for further opportunities to develop my sport and exercise psychology skills.
